Esport America a interviewé Mike (CPL) afin de comprendre quels sont les critères de choix pour les jeux joués en compétition. Ca se passe de commentaires:

Esports-America: What are the reasons behind the CPL’s recent decision to move most of its support and « enthusiasm » to Counterstrike, replacing the title previously held by Quake III Arena, the third member of a long family of CPL supported games?

Mike: « The CPL selects games based on what the sponsors want to sponsor, what the media wants to cover and what the pro gaming community wants to play. » We had a strong player base with Quake III, but there was no potential for large growth while using a game that was largely accepted as just « ok » for competitive gaming. One of the biggest vehicles for the CPL, or roadblocks for that matter, is the game platform. We strongly believe that Counter-Strike is more suitable for the players and not just the sponsors. Of the many reasons, the one that sits heaviest is the simple fact that Counter-Strike as a team game parallels the strategy of many non-virtual sports of today. Quake III Team had fast action to offer the spectator, but that is nothing without depth in strategy. Counter-strike is a true team platform in the sense that it is no more about one player than football is about any one player. It is this element that puts Counter-Strike leaps and bounds ahead of any other game on the table.
