The Commandos Are Back, and This Time, They’re Online!

Quazal technology takes Eidos’ hit war franchise online

Montreal, Quebec (October 19th, 2005) – Quazal, makers of the Net-Z and Rendez-Vous online multiplayer middleware, and Eidos Interactive, a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment content, today announced that the upcoming game Commandos Strike ForceTM will be powered by Quazal technology to provide online multiplayer gaming.

Commandos Strike Force is the fourth game in the multi-million selling Commandos series developed by Pyro Studios. With Strike Force, the series has received a major overhaul and is now an FPS, while still retaining the concepts that made Commandos so unique. Gamers will find themselves deep behind enemy lines on a wide variety of missions that need all the skills the Commandos have to offer. Three Special Forces soldiers, the Green Beret, Sniper and Spy, offer different solutions to different challenges. How you execute a plan of attack is up to you. With online play powered by Quazal’s Net-Z and lobby services provided through Quazal Rendez-Vous, Commandos Strike Force will feature a number of original online play modes for gamers to enjoy.

« I’ve been a fan of the Commandos series for years due to their originality and challenge. Working with Pyro Studios on Commandos Strike Force is a great opportunity for Quazal and shows how pleased Eidos is with our technology, » said Mike Drummelsmith, Developer Relations Manager of Quazal. « Working with Eidos and Pyro Studios has been a great experience all around, and we know that’ll lead to a great online game! »

The Net-Z technology used in Commandos Strike Force allows Pyro Studios to focus their efforts on building solid gameplay ideas and a great playing game, rather than dealing with low-level networking, while Rendez-Vous gives Eidos a low-risk, low-hassle online solution as Quazal handles all hosting duties and other headaches of online game development such as NAT traversal.

« We’ve been working with Quazal for a number of months now, and both the technology as well as the quality and level of support have been outstanding, » stated Ismael Raya Roa, Lead Programmer at Pyro Studios. « We’ve implemented some very cool modes for Commandos Strike Force, and thanks to Quazal we can spend our time where it counts most – on the gameplay! »
