HomeLanFed a discuté avec Don Neufeld, le boss des programmeurs de PlanetSide. L’interview parle de son boulot et de son équipe de développeur mais absolument pas du jeu en lui-même.
HomeLAN – What is your specific background in computer programming?
Don Neufeld – Typically game programmers put here that they’ve been programming in assembly language on since they were weaned. I’ll skip all that nonsense and get to the part that matters.
I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science with a second major in Mathematics. After I finished my undergraduate work I entered an internship with Wolfram Research. I enjoyed working on Mathematica 4 enough that I decided to continue working with them after the internship rather than pursue the graduate studies I had planned to do at the University of Waterloo. Initially I did maintenance work resulting from the release of Mathematica 3.1, once that was sufficiently under control I developed their first pass at a cross platform interactive 3d data viewer.
When my greedy bone started itching I left Wolfram Research to work for Equity at an internet startup in Canada, where I wrote SQL based server backends for ad serving and email systems.
Eventually I decided I wanted to try my hand at games before I got old and gray, so I left my job, sent out my resume, and ended up here.
