we fired almost every existing weapon on the planet, and I did of course record the entire session… But what happened? Almost all weapons sounded alike when fired!! OMG – what’s this?! Even with several differnet microphones and recorders, the differences on tape/disc were not as cool as I had hoped for. Of course the RPM was different, but the general «bangs» sounded pretty much the same regardless of the weapon fired. Bummer! What I’ve done since then, is to analyse the sounds closer and I’ve tried to spot the small differences and special characteristics of each firearm. Starting with a genuine and dry sound of each weapon I’ve then progressed by emphasising those frequency areas where that weapon has its special characteristic. Mixing it with suitable sweeteners, EQing and finally compressing it has given us a fairly decent pile of gunsounds for IGI2.
