AVault a réalisé une interview de Kevin McCann (lead game designer de Planetside). Les questions sont pertinentes, les réponses précises et l’article ne s’étend pas sur 5 pages. Une bonne lecture.
Action Vault: Please describe the death system. Will there be any penalties? Can players decide where to respawn, or is it pre-determined?
Kevin McCann: Since PlanetSide is a FPS, players are going to die, no matter how careful they play. Death itself is meant to be a very minimal penalty.
The real penalties for dying are: (1) Probably losing all your equipment unless friendlies are there; and, (2) Your respawn location. If you’ve traveled four kilometers from a Main Base and die, then the respawn location is the biggest penalty – you’re back at Main Base. However, all the facilities that can be captured have Imprint memory where players can bind themselves so if they die they respawn at that location.
When a player dies, they’ll have minimal respawn options. For example, if your character is currently bound to a facility in the field and dies, the character can choose to either respawn at the facility or the Main Base. The reason there’s an option to respawn at the Main Base is in case your barracks (respawn area) is overrun by enemies – this way you won’t get senselessly slaughtered each time you respawn. You can just fall back to the Main Base. There will also be a specialized vehicle that allows for respawning out in the field, too.
