The player character is a doctor named Jack Mason. You are assigned to transport some infectious material, which turns out to be a female in a cryocasket to slow down her metabolism. Your flight is supposed to have an escort, but doesn’t due to some kind of mix-up. While flying over a prison sector, it’s attacked and shot down.
After you regain consciousness, you see that the crash has released the young woman, whose name is Karina, from her confinement. She has acquired a weapon, and when a guard shoots her, you’re spattered with her blood, which is thought to be the carrier of the contagion.
