Interview: Punkbuster

3DA a interviewé l’homme derrière PunkBuster. Il y explique sa démarche et les différentes caractéristiques de son soft. Il regrette le peu de support que Valve lui a apporté et pour conclure il nous fait une bonne vieille leçon de morale des familles.

3DActionPlanet: The latest Counter-Strike wallhack which has been circulating around the ‘net is not currently detected by PunkBuster. Why is this?

Tony Ray: I’m not sure I believe that – PunkBuster should detect all publicly available wallhacks at this time. We have several researchers and testers who are always looking for new cheats. I can add detection of a new cheat with about 10 minutes of time. Anyone who finds a cheat that is not currently detected by PunkBuster should email it to research@punkbuster.com. We are always getting emails from people who say that this cheat or that cheat is not detected, so we try them and 99% of the time, PunkBuster correctly detects the cheats.
I think people just believe what others tell them or what they read on websites. PunkBuster is updated very frequently and often information about cheats is old by comparison. When I go looking at the cheat sites from time to time, I sometimes see hacks and cheats that say « not detected by PunkBuster », but they have been detected for over 6 months! Recently there have been a slew of new wallhacks and aimbots, but as far as I know, we detect them all at this point.

Pour ceux qui l’ignoraient, PunkBuster est un programme qui s’installe sur le serveur et le client Half-Life et qui permet de détecter les cheaters.
